STUDENT QUIZ BOWL AT EATA- BOSTON:
The EATA will hold two, back to back, Quiz Bowls on Friday, January 9th in Boston, MA starting at 10 PM to determine the district’s representatives (Districts I and II) for the Inaugural NATA Quiz Bowl in San Antonio, TX this summer.
The EATA Quiz Bowl is designed to be low stress in that all questions are multiple choice, there is no penalty (i.e. deduction of points) for wrong answers, and students do not need to verbalize their answers only use a remote control device to express their answers. The EATA Quiz Bowl will use a jeopardy style format similar to what will be used during the NATA Quiz Bowl this summer. Each of the two EATA Quiz Bowls will be one round of approximately 30 multiple choice questions. The questions will be read to all participants and each participant will use a remote control device to record their answer within a predetermined timeframe. The students will compete against athletic training students from the other accredited programs in their respective NATA District only. All students will compete at the same time and get points for correct answers, however, point value for each question decrease as the timer decreases. No deduction of points occur for incorrect answers. The top three participants at the end of each Quiz Bowl with the most points will represent their district at the NATA.
In order to have a variety of schools representing District I and II in San Antonio only ONE athletic training student from each ATEP can participate in the EATA Quiz Bowls. The responsibility for selecting the school’s student representative (and a possible alternate) will be placed on the ATEP Program Director and program faculty. Therefore if you are interested please see your Program Director immediately so he can forward your name to the Quiz Bowl Moderator by December 5th.
To be eligible for the EATA Quiz Bowl the representative must be non-certified from a CAATE recognized entry level program. To be eligible to compete at the NATA this summer each school representative must be a non-certified undergraduate or a recent (spring/summer semester) graduate who has just passed the BOC exam. During the NATA Quiz Bowl the same three participants must participate in all rounds of competition. Team members must be registered for the NATA Annual Meeting in order to compete in the NATA Quiz Bowl.
Currently the NATA Quiz Bowl in San Antonio will follow immediately after the J&J general session and keynote speaker which runs between 3.00pm – 4.15pm on Friday, June 19th. Each of the district representatives will receive FREE registration (excludes alternates) for the NATA Convention, monetary prizes, as well as several gifts. The top team will have their NATA District and the participants names listed on a large trophy. Greater details in regards to financial support for the student representatives are also being examined.
